The Rip Gill 7cm: Wide Profile, Violent Strikes
The Rip Gill 7cm is a broad-bodied creature bait engineered to push water like a lure twice its size. At 70mm, its flat, gill-shaped profile perfectly imitates a small bream, rudd, or panfish — the high-value meal that big perch and pike single out in a shoal.
Engineered Displacement
The Rip Gill is ribbed from head to tail. Those ribs aren’t cosmetic — they increase surface area and water displacement, creating pressure waves that predators detect through their lateral line long before they see the lure. The broad, flat body produces a unique gliding fall and quiver on the drop that conventional swimbaits simply can’t replicate. It looks wounded. It feels substantial. Fish commit.
Pro-Tactics & Presentation:
Free Rig: Let the Rip Gill glide and flutter on a free-falling weight — the broad body planes out on the drop, covering water and triggering reaction strikes from following fish.
Texas Rig: Punch it into snags, reed beds, and overhanging structure where big perch and pike lurk. The flat profile slips through cover while the ribs push enough water to draw fish out.
Jig Head: Swim it slowly along margins and drop-offs. The ribbed body wobbles and pulses on a steady retrieve — deadly for zander after dark and perch on pressured venues.
The Maverick Difference
Unlike mass-produced factory lures, every Rip Gill is individually hand-made in the UK. Our colours are specifically mixed for UK water conditions — from the murky “tea” of city canals to the crystal-clear pits of the South East.
Note: Due to the bespoke, hand-finished nature of our lures, slight variations in colour and finish may occur between batches.
