About Maverick Tackle
One Angler. Handmade Lures. No Fluff.
Maverick Tackle is a small, honest operation run by one person who is genuinely obsessed with lure fishing.
The lures are made by hand in the UK using high-quality moulds sourced from the US and Europe, injected with professional American-made injectors. Each batch is made individually — experimenting with plastisol hardness, action, and above all, colour.
Colour is where most of the craft lives. Building depth and transparency into a lure, layering chameleon and iridescent powders and glitters to achieve that flash — natural or gaudy, subtle or aggressive — that triggers a predator into striking. That’s the part that takes the most time and gives the most satisfaction.
This isn’t a factory. This isn’t a dropship operation. It’s a craft that’s still being refined, by someone who fishes the products he sells.

The Story
It started, as these things often do, with a bent pin and a grandmother’s goldfish pond.
Years later — after university, work, marriage, and two boys — fishing came back into my life properly. This time it was lure fishing, and it stuck hard. The more I fished, the more I wanted to understand how soft plastics actually worked: why one lure gets bit and another doesn’t, what governs action in the water, how colour behaves at depth.
That curiosity led to lure making. I started making my own hard lures first and then moved to soft plastics, adjusting and testing, session after session. Eventually the results were good enough to share — and Maverick Tackle became a real thing.
Always Learning
I fish a few competitions throughout the year — not to win, but because there’s no better classroom than a pressured venue with a clock running. I also fish for pike, perch, trout, chub, and whatever else will take a lure. I use techniques and setups from ultralight to heavy, and also fly fishing.
When I’m back in Portugal with my boys — 11 and 15 now — we chase zander and largemouth bass together. Different water, same obsession.
I’m not a finished angler and I’m not a finished lure maker. This is an ongoing education, and the blog is where I share what I’m learning — honestly, without the marketing gloss.
